Thumbs down Female & Male

Hello 7_7

I see alot of people, especially guys QQing about male armor in Guild Wars, their looks in the game, and generaly everything is to some homosexual in this game.

Why do so many, well I will use the name guys, since I feel this is mostly around guys. Why do so many guys hate playing men/the looks of men in this game?
If you're a woman and would like to answer why you don't like to play females/males go ahead. Wheter it is the looks or because you don't like the attention.

Also; another thing I've noticed is that men can/get harrased by the choice of gender they play, also, I've noticed that the difference between a PvP player and a RPG player matters alot in this choice.

I kinda want to put light on that, I atleast feel that GW focuses alot more on females than males when it comes to looks and armor choices etc.

No, I'm not telling anybody how to play the game.
No, I'm not saying playing females is bad.
No, I'm not a extreme femenist. But I am a femenist. ^^

I am a male and I don't think that male classes except maybe Elementalist and Paragon look homosexual. Anyhow, that shouldn't have to be too bad. I think you can make a real badass char with Warrior, Assassin, Dervish, Necromancer, Ritualist and Ranger and a neutral themed character with Mesmer and Monk.

It seems to me that the days when this stuff mattered are mostly in the past. I haven't seen too many of those occurrences recently where a player's gender would be assumed to be the same as the gender of the character they were playing at the time, even though this was common behavior in the past.

I think people have gotten used to the fact that in online gaming what you see is not what you get.

One of the main reason I don't have many male characters is that I don't like the hairstyles on the vast majority of professions. I have a male necro and a male sin because they have at least one hairstyle that I like. I couldn't say the same for the other professions so I made a female warrior, ranger and monk.

i am a male and i play with female chars, but that is more because i rather watch a female then a male :P
but i have a male Assasin and Necromancer.

The only really "gayish" armor would be male elite glad. but if you dont like the armor dont whine of it reason why i dont have it. :P

i dont think it is really about the "gayness"of armors. and its not about a lot of guys/girls . Most of the ones that are qq about those armors are "little kids" that think they are important and know everything.

and yes the "kids" in this game are the ones that will annoy you if they know you dont have the same gender as your character and that is not only in this game but also with other ones.

I dont really see the difference in rpg or pvp with choices in male or female characters.

Why do you care what other people do?
If you like male characters, create one and play one. Who gives if some nerd trash talks you because of your characters gender?

I'm male, and 9/10 of my characters are male. They all look great, and not camp at all.

It's all about thinking and making a certain look, ie my ele is a hippy, war is big 'n' bulky, necro is like a corpse warmed up.

Even my para looks masculine, I have a combo that doesn't show his bare legs or have nipples on the chest armour. A beard helps him out too

People just need to use their imagination, and not stick to wearing full matching sets; use parts from them all and get you own theme, even if it's a comedy look.

Only my mesmer is female, for no reason other than the "flame-tipped" leggings that they wear, they look hot, in both senses of the word.

Generally, I just think the male characters are just... too manly and with ugly armour. This isn't some manga game and I don't expect to play bishounen guys, but if you don't wanna play "Hulk mad" looking characters, you'll have to play a girl.

I'm a male, play 90% male characters (the guild voted my last char shoulb be a female, so Irina was born), and see no particular problem with anyone playing any sex.

Mind you, pretending you are something in real life that you are not is a different matter (you're not obliged to talk about real life at all, but if you do, lieing is still lieing).

Oh, and I think Anet has unfairly made the females of the game WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better looking than the males, from faces to hairdos to armor looks.

Where did I say I care what other people do? When is it a bad thing to wonder about something, or to question something? When did I ever say here it was ME WHO GOT TRASH TALKED either?

Perhaps you should come back another time, since you're obviously just here to flame me?

This is also something I want to hear peoples opinions about. Because I've talked with alot of people and they all say the same. I am wondering if the game is kind of focused more around females? I also feel that in the game the designers had less options when it came to male armor.

BTW: The difference *I* HAVE SEEN in PvP and RPG players is that PvP players usually just plays what they think looks hot, and the RPG players often want to represent themself, or play a character they can relate to.

My avatars in game are not a representation of me nor do I try to live vicariously through them; I see them more as my traveling companions. Since I have more than enough males friends in the real world, why would I not want to traverse the virtual lands with the beautiful women of Tyria?

I'm female, and play mostly female characters, but have about three or four male toons.

Let's face it, female armour is in general more elaborately designed and textured (especially the store costumes - I love using the female costumes, but I find the male ones either uninspiring or unappealing in comparisson), thus more appealing. Unfortunately, the unfair ratio between elaborately designed female armour to male armour, may be due in part to so many people jumping on the "this male character's armour is so gay!" bandwagon. Perhaps it deters Anet from designing male armour with as much love as what seems to go into female armour? Not stating that as fact, just throwing it out there.

By the way, I never understood the male para hate. It's more or less just Roman troop/centurion armour (which *gasp* sometimes has nips!), with a different colour scheme. Sure their dance is pretty camp, but so's the male warrior's and ritualist's, regardless of their inspiration.

Additionally, I play a certain class/gender based on the armour I can choose. Probably my main motivator in-game.

I am female and so are all my chars. I did try making a male char but I didn't like playing as a male, I have no idea why.

I do like the look of the male chars - except assasin both male and female look adolescent.

I like playing with all my in game friends but I do find it slightly more fun when playing with men who have male chars rather than those who have female chars. But then I am very literal minded.

I am male but i prefer using female chrs - reason has nothing to do with chrs looking homosexual - partly i joke like many males do that when playing we dont want to be looking at our male chrs asses all the time - non homosexual males always look at females asses and its an inbuilt trait and also in some places its acceptable for a male to say "shes got a cute ass" and the female not be offended but if we said "she has cute tits" then we are entering the realms of harrassment or getting slapped.
I like female chrs due to the fact that a female chr can do exactly the same as a male chr - no gender discrimination ( and yes theres idiotic males who cant believe females play gw or other games ).Its nice to have a choice of gender even if gw sterotypes most professions - like warrior is big and bulky and assassins are small and athletic.
The chrs gender only becomes a problem if - the person using it attempts to pass off as that gender ( eg male pretending hes female ) for unknown reasons or stupid little kids who see female chr and want to make sexual comments etc then decide YOUR gay for using it - even tho THEY are making the comments and i know many of us males have been there.
I never assume a chr is owned by a person of that gender - i always ask and that way theres no problems.
Like someone said - their chr is an avatar and not reflecting them in rl , i wonder if wow has this problem and ppl think in rl theres zombies etc walking around.

@eeks - male paras do get the brunt of it and the armor is wrong in my views , i can look at roman troops ( even with nips ) and not once does gay spring to mind .. byt same cant be said about para and i reckon its the lower part of armor is wrong .
I dont recall ever dervs being called gay or crossdressers etc even if ppl think of them as wearing dresses - weird that.

You're both trolls so go do something else.

"Like someone said - their chr is an avatar and not reflecting them in rl"

But that is very individual, all my characters represent a part of me. I am female so I play only females, I don't know why I don't want to play males but so be it, even though I think some of them look very handsome. I also have the same as one other stated up here, that I prefer playing with a guy if he's playing male characters. Why, I don't know either, I guess because I wanna represent myself in this Guild Wars world so I would like to play with somebody who do the same. Though, before somebody flames me; That is up to one another, and I wont not play with somebody just cause they prefer playing the other sex.

This pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.Insecure guys that desperatly need to look so calledly "manly" having its influence o nthe game design ( im looking at you male eles dressing in the ost atrocious armour combos and picking the ugliest faces ever just for the sake of manliness and still looking gay in the end and like a joke :P ) and its funny because most guys wanting those characters prolly dont look themselves like the icon of manliness thats in their minds but more like those IG eles, minus good taste :P

Also imo many of the male models still look to manly in an oldfashioned way for my taste.Good example is the male mesmer body structure thats a bit like those fabio models we had way back /cough.

Allot of other males just tend to have plain or weird faces with rather dull haircuts and its a bit of a shame.

I say the patriarchical era needs to finally die off ! :P Its not suited for these times anymore.

Male playing all males. I get nothing out of role playing a female. I don't play GW to stare at my avatar thinking its cute.
